Lumley’s Christmas Traditions

We wanted to give you a little insight into your host family’s Christmas Traditions.

Their Christmas Tree is always adorned at the top with a star made by John – Cardboard and Aluminum Foil. Nothing lavish or over the top – just a simple star- like the one that shined the day Jesus was born.

On Christmas Eve, we light our Yule Log – which John makes from a birch wood found right on the resort property. We put 2 red taper candles and 2 green taper candles. Katie and Lizzie light the ones in the middle and Carol and John light the ones on the outside. They also have a candle in front which they light for the dog! When the candles of the Yule Log burn down on Christmas Eve, they put the log away and save it to burn at the first campfire of the summer at the resort! Church time on Christmas Eve – then a delicious Prime Rib Dinner and onto watching the Grinch before bed.

They wake up in the morning and each person takes a turn opening a gift – then it’s onto pancake breakfast. Then after breakfast it’s time to open the stockings. After that its just a bunch of playing with what you got before they have the traditional ham dinner with Carol’s famous Cranberry Sauce!

Everyone has their own traditions and it’s what makes the holiday time so special to preserve these beautiful memories. The Lumley family wishes you a happy and healthy Christmas and New Year.
